Conflict Minerals Policy

Service Agreement Terms and Conditions

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive 2002/95/EC, short for Directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union. The initiative was to limit the amount of hazardous chemicals in electronics.

WELLER supports this requirement and its position to avoid the use of conflict minerals mined from the DRC and adjoining countries.

Conflict minerals refer to tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold — collectively known as 3TG (sometimes also referred to as 3TGs). These minerals are commonly used in electronic components, solder products, PCBs, and various other materials essential to electronics manufacturing. In certain conflict-affected and high-risk areas, particularly the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and adjoining countries, the mining and trade of 3TG have been linked to armed conflict, human rights abuses, and the financing of non-state armed groups.

WELLER is committed to responsible mineral sourcing and expects our entire supply chain to adopt the same commitment. We do not knowingly source or support the use of 3TG that directly or indirectly finances or benefits armed groups in conflict-affected and high-risk areas. Our commitment is aligned with internationally recognized frameworks, including the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas and Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

WELLER expects the following from our suppliers:

  • All materials used by WELLER must be certificated by UL, and all materials we use must be fully traceable.
  • Source materials from socially responsible suppliers that respect human rights and operate ethically.
  • Establish and maintain a conflict minerals policy consistent with this policy, and pass the requirements of this policy through their own supply chains.
  • Determine the origin of any 3TG (tin, tantalum, tungsten, gold) contained in materials or components supplied to WELLER.
  • Upon request, complete and provide a Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) — the industry-standard reporting form published by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) — to disclose smelter and country of origin information for all 3TG in the supply chain.
  • Cooperate with reasonable due diligence inquiries and audits related to conflict minerals and 3TG sourcing.
  • Immediately notify WELLER if any potential conflict mineral risk is identified within their supply chain.

Suppliers who are non-compliant with our policy will be reviewed by our materials group to determine supplier status with our organization. WELLER will work with non-compliant suppliers to establish corrective action plans where feasible. If a supplier fails or refuses to adopt a responsible sourcing approach, WELLER will seek alternative sources for the affected materials or components.

This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated as regulatory requirements, customer expectations, or industry standards evolve.
